Ariel, Sponge Bob, you've had a good run, but it's time we clear the aquatic stage for the real deal stars of today -- you know: whales, fish, water, plants ... divers out to rescue them all. The real deal. One World One Ocean is launching a whole new lineup of online original programming, featuring all that the ocean has to offer (as long as we humans don't screw it up). Their mission? To inspire people to protect the ocean.
One World One Ocean points out that the ocean holds 97 percent of this planet's water, that over 60 percent of the world's population lives on or near a coast, that well over half of the oxygen we humans breathe comes from the ocean -- and that this most precious resource is in deep blue trouble. If we don't change the way we eat, if we don't step back to evaluate how our actions threaten marine life, we could be headed for a future where jellyfish are the only seafood options on a menu. For realsies. The new digital programming will feature shows like Boat to Belly: A Sustainable Seafood Series and Artists & Oceans showing viewers fresh perspectives on what's at stake.

And once you know what's at stake ...then what? Watch the video below to learn more scary facts about our Ocean's well-being like how 90 percent of our big fish are gone including tuna, swordfish and sharks. The video is super interesting and only 2 minutes long!
Are you as shocked as us about the state of our oceans? Can you believe that 12 percent of our land is protected but only 2 percent of our oceans have the same protection?! Start the ball rolling with these points of action:
+ With ninety percent of the world's "big fish" gone, it's high time we consumers got a little more mindful when eating seafood. Sign the Sustainable Seafood Pledge.
+ In some areas of the ocean, plastic waste is collecting like floating landfills, destroying marine life in the process. Gross. Vow to get rid of that single-use plastic bag habit.
+ Organize a clean-up. Get your friends out to the shoreline to pick up garbage and make a statement in your community. (If you've got inspiration running high, organize a sustainable seafood club while you're at it.
