Today is World Malaria Day, a day for recognizing the global effort being made to put an end to the deadly disease that kills approximately one million people each year. And to think, the illness spreads like crazy through malaria-infected mosquitoes. Yup, a mosquito can cause THAT MUCH damage.
According to the World Health Organization, a child dies from malaria every minute. Most malaria cases occur in Sub-Saharan Africa. However, Asia, Latin America, and parts of the Middle East and Europe are also affected.
The good news is the fight against malaria is making a difference. Reports of the illness have decreased more than 25 percent across the globe and 33 percent in Africa since 2000. Let’s keep up the momentum to wipe out malaria once and for all. Here are some great ways to take action today -- we've got everything from Tweeting to sending an electronic postcard.
