Will The Pope Tweet for Good?

We know that Twitter is great for spreading the word, but now that the Pope is tweeting it may be used to spread The Word. On Wednesday (June 28) he sent his first message via iPad saying, “Dear Friends, I just launched News.va Praised be our Lord Jesus Christ! With my prayers and blessings, Benedictus XVI.”

The President of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications, Archbishop Claudio Maria Celli (yes, the papal social media guru, if you will) has been working to bring the Catholic Church into the 21st century tech-wise. A new web portal and the Pope2You app led the way… now he’s got the Pope tweeting from an iPad. The man is good!

So the Pope is already repping his fancy new website, News.va. But will he join the ranks of those using their Twitter powers for good? The Dalai Lama shares nuggets of wisdom with nearly 2 million followers. JFK is tweeting about his presidency from the grave. Ashton Kutcher raises his loud Twitter voice for important causes. Just today he sounded off about Demi’s new documentary on child slaves in Nepal.

Celebs like Kellan Lutz, Alicia Keys, Lady Gaga, Leona Lewis, and Justin Bieber all tweet for good. What powerfully positive celebs would you like to see start a feed? Beyonce? Angelina Jolie? Maybe a throwback to Mother Theresa? We’re all for spreading the good word!
