When Barack Obama promised Sasha and Malia that they could bring a puppy to their news digs in DC, the nation went bonkers trying to figure out which breed would be dropping deuces on the South Lawn. Months of pooch predictions ended when late Senator Ted Kennedy gifted the girls Bo, an adorbs (and hypoallergenic!) Portuguese Water Dog.

On Aug. 28, 1963--two years to the date after JFK saw off his very first group of Peace Corps volunteers--an estimated quarter of a million people gathered in D.C. for the historic March on Washington. There, MLK shared his dream, and support for President Kennedy's civil rights bill gathered the momentum it would need to pass the following year. Lesson learned? There's safety in numbers.

On Wednesday (June 28) he sent his first message via iPad saying, “Dear Friends, I just launched News.va Praised be our Lord Jesus Christ! With my prayers and blessings, Benedictus XVI."

On this day 48 years ago, President John F. Kennedy proposed legislation that redefined civil rights in America. This proposal--which protected citizens from discrimination regardless of their race, religion, gender or national origin--laid the foundation for the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Kennedy opened his commencement address at American University in Washington, D.C., with bold intentions: "I have, therefore, chosen this time and this place to discuss a topic on which ignorance too often abounds and the truth is too rarely perceived," he said, "yet it is the most important topic on earth: world peace."
