You don’t have emotions -- you have emoji. You’re an obscure anime character every year for Halloween. And most importantly, when the earthquake and tsunami hit Japan last year, you immediately wanted to strap on your Undercover Nike kicks (designed by your fashion fav Jun Takahashi, of course) and be part of the first relief mission to the devastated island country.

When disaster struck, they organized charity concerts, auctioned off their gear, sold prayer bracelets, gamed for good and hosted benefit teas -- so we expected to see mad Japan love from music’s biggest stars honoring the one-year anniversary of the devastating earthquake and tsunami.

I remember my Mom calling at 2am and demanding that I turn on the television, and as my sleepy eyes adjusted to the footage of an unthinkably vast wall of muddy water engulfing an entire town, I thought, “Why does she want me to watch another one of those cheesy Roland Emmerich disaster flicks?” But then I realized this was not CGI -- this was CNN. It was live. And it was Japan.

I've seen some really bizarre things in my life, but an inflatable concert hall that holds 700 people?! The Ark Nova is a music space like no other and it will exist in a country struck by a natural disaster this year -- Japan.

As with any disaster, the Japanese earthquake and tsunami left more than broken buildings in its wake--it left broken families as well. Recent numbers show 1,400 children have been orphaned after one or both parents died during the disaster, and thousands more have been displaced from their families.
