From latkes to Christmas cookies and everything in between, this is the season for good eatin’. But it’s also the season of increased “fat talk” as people feel guilty for indulging, and Tyra Banks wants you to tell haters to “shhhh” it.

In a video interview with Pop Sugar, Tyra talks about how women can be especially critical of their bodies this time of year. “They’re looking in the mirror, they’re saying negative things about themselves,” she said. So she’s teamed up with Special K to fight fat talk.
Many people are making New Year’s resolutions to eat healthier, and Tyra says this isn’t about that. Eating healthier is great. Denying yourself treats 100% of the time, deriding yourself and calling yourself names … that’s so not great.
“[Women are] looking in the mirror, and they’re going, ‘I’m disgusting, I’m gross, I’m fat,’” she said. “Some women, they’ll do it in front of their daughters. Their daughters might have their body, or even a bigger body, or might have their body one day.” And then what are those daughters supposed to think and feel?
If eating healthier is your resolution, there’s never room for negative thoughts. “Even if you want to get healthy, it’s proven that fat talk actually hinders you from you goal,” she said.
Tyra’s done a selfie of herself doing the shush motion to “shush fat talk” and she’s encouraging people to take their own selfies and use the hashtag #FightFatTalk. And she wants a grand movement going with this!
“So share your shush,” Tyra said.
