Ms. Smith goes to Washington! Actress Jada Pinkett Smith is dedicated to putting a stop to human trafficking, and she’s got a big fan in Ricky Martin. Ricky Tweeted:
Jada talked during a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing recently, speaking about her desire to set up a campaign to curb human trafficking. In addition to that, Jada wants an extension on the Trafficking Victims Protection Act. This act makes sure there’s money to fight human trafficking and to help people who have been sold into slavery. Democratic Senator John Kerry is working to get more bipartisan support for the act.
While Jada did the important talk, she had some welcome support from family in the audience. Hubby Will Smith and singing sensation daughter Willow were both in attendance, and the three family members synchronized with “Free Slaves” T-shirts. Now that’s a fashion statement we can all agree on. And, hey, it was actually Willow who first got her mom into this cause.
Ricky is obvi a huge supporter of Jada’s campaign and asks peeps to follow her on Twitter. But, even more importantly, people can help Jada out in her crusade against human trafficking. Human trafficking is a big problem, and it happens around the globe. According to mtvU Against Our Will, between 12 and 27 million people worldwide are estimated to be enslaved. That’s why Jada went to Washington, and that’s why Ricky is using the Internet to let people know about her mission.
