Tonight will be the fourth night of Hanukkah, and Elizabeth Banks knows a reggae way to celebrate the Festival of Lights and give Sandy relief. She turns to indie rocker Matisyahu for the cool celebrate-and-help idea he has going on.
Ebanks Tweeted the following holiday-themed memo:
Yup, Elizabeth’s Tweet pretty much sums it up. Every person who listens to the playlist Matisyahu has set up will help send 10 cents to Sandy relief, and they don’t have to open their own wallets to do it. Simple and effective, right? (And the music’s pretty legit, too.)
If enough people listen in, this can def make a diff, and the money earned goes to Sandy relief efforts through The Jewish Federation of North America and The Robin Hood Foundation. And if you haven’t checked out Matisyahu yet, he’s one unique musician: his music is a mix of rock, hip hop, reggae, and still enough Jewish themes to make his bubbe proud. Try telling me you’ve heard a Hanukkah song like this one before.
Sandy relief will be going on for some time yet, and you can still help MTV’s Restore the Shore campaign or give to places like the Red Cross. And as Music Television (Yes, we still playing music videos!!!), we certainly dig this music-enhanced way to give that Matisyahu has come up. So don’t forget to share his playlist to your friends on social media, ’cause this is a great way to say, “Chag urim sameach!” for Hanukkah...annnd make it a better holiday season for people affected by Sandy!
