Girl Rising is a campaign for girls’ education, and a documentary of the same name tells you more about its mission and inspires you to get involved. Check out the powerful trailer here:
+ Watch The Trailer For “Girl Rising.”
The doc follows different girls in different countries, and shows some of the human rights abuses being committed against girls, such as forcing them be to be child brides and not letting them to go to school. But the trailer also shows how girls around the world are standing up to these abuses. At the end it lists some of the celebrity women involved in the documentary, including Selena Gomez, Alicia Keys … and Kerry Washington! So she’s not just Tweeting about this movement because she likes it — she loves it so much she’s personally involved on multiple levels.
If you want to watch the whole movie, you can see about getting it to come to your town or school. (Talk to your teachers about watching it in school — they might be really interested!) There is also more stuff going on for the International Day of the Girl, so check out if there’s an event happening near you. There’s even a super-special tool kit to help you get everything you need for this Friday! It’s time to help girls rise everywhere.
Take action to help empower young women today to be the female powerhouses of tomorrow.
