Ever since she lost her second mom, Wendy, to cancer, Jordin Sparks has been dedicated to fighting against melanoma (a type of skin cancer). Because May is Melanoma Awareness Month, Jordin has gone to Twitter to spread awareness and honor Wendy’s memory.

The “Sparkle” star Tweeted:

Last year Jordin was also big on Tweeting about melanoma during May. While melanoma isn’t totally preventable, there are ways to lessen your chances of getting it. Now that the weather is getting warmer and people are getting down to shorts and tanks, it’s especially important to keep yourself protected. Avoiding direct sunlight from 10 till 3 can make a big diff, and so can covering up. Hats with brims can keep you better protected, and slapping on some sunscreen would also do the trick. Sunglasses not only make you look good but also keep your eyes safe.

It’s also important to check your body and talk to your doctor if you see any marks that you think  look suspicious. Melanoma is especially dangerous because it’s a kind of cancer that can spread: It starts on your skin but can go to other parts of your body. Don’t panic, though — being educated on melanoma, protecting yourself and keeping up to date with your doctor go a long way. There are treatments available, especially if it’s caught early.

Judging by this other Tweet (and pic) Jordin shared, she’s as dedicated as ever about going orange in May:
