Two people were killed, and many more were injured. A suspect has been identified, and it’s believed he may have been drinking before getting behind the wheel. He was supposed to pull over for a sobriety check, but instead he tried to make a getaway and hit people in the process.
heavy heart about the tragedy at SXSW last night. there is NEVER an excuse for driving drunk. my heart goes out to those who were affected.— hayley from Paramore (@yelyahwilliams) March 13, 2014
Many people drink from time to time. The point is to make sure you always do it responsibly. Getting behind the wheel is a big no-no, even if you don’t feel drunk. We don’t want to make this sound like a lecture (because, ugh, lectures suck) or sound judgmental. It’s just that when you see the type of things drunk driving can lead to, it really hits home how important it is to be careful.
Avoiding a terrible accident is as simple as not going anywhere in a car if you’ve been drinking. Or, if you’ve been drinking and need to travel by car, then getting a designated driver or calling a cab is the responsible thing to do. You can ask a friend or family member beforehand to be your designated driver, so it’s all set up. Because no one wants to see tragedies like this happen.
