The girls on “Girl Code” know how to be sassy, outspoken and downright real. While some of the stuff they say is just meant to get laughs, they also talk about serious issues, like body image and being independent.

For instance, take a look at this web exclusive of Tanisha lifting up everyone’s self-esteem:
“Oh, by the way, you do not need to wait for someone to tell you that you’re beautiful,” she says. “You are beautiful, and you need to know that. Go stare at yourself in the mirror and look at all the amazing parts of your face. No matter how different they are than other people’s, they’re freaking beautiful. And if you need someone to remind you of that, call your mom. She will do it.” Apparently Tanisha will, too. (I wouldn’t try calling her, though. I’d just rewatch the clip.)
“Girl Code” has also taken on important issues like using birth control and the importance of getting yourself tested. And don’t forget how cast members proudly wore the feminism badge and stood up for women’s rights. “Girl Code” can be pretty silly, but underneath all the jokes, there’s often a serious message. And when Tanisha and the other “Code” ladies talk about independence and standing up for yourself, it is music to our ears.
