How would you feel if you were fired or forced to leave your job because you married the person you love? This scenario just happened to a well-respected vice principal, and many of his students — plus the band fun. — are saying it doesn’t have to be this way.

Mark Zmuda had been working as vice principal at Eastside Catholic School in Seattle, but after he married another man, things came to a head. Many students are outraged that Zmuba no longer has his job, and an online petition is being circulated.
The petition is directed toward the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, and it reads, in part, “We, the student body at Eastside Catholic School, have experienced an egregious injustice which was inflicted by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Seattle. Our beloved vice principal, Mr. Zmuda, was terminated by the Archdiocese as a result of his marriage to another man. The student body is outraged that an incredible administrator, coach, and human being was fired solely because of his love and marriage for another human being.”
The petition goes on to ask the Catholic Church to change its position on same-sex marriage. Bradley Strode, the petition organizer, also said, “This is not an anti-Catholic Church movement or a Gay Rights movement. Our true goal is to change the way the Church approaches gay marriage. We must do so with positive attitudes, comments and collaboration with the Holy Catholic Church.”
Fun. is often talking about the importance of being an ally, so no wonder they’re supporting these students in their strides to help their vice principal!
