What’s it like to be out in America today? LGBTQ rights have taken major strides in recent years, but LGBTQ people also face prejudice and ignorance each day. Ellen DeGeneres has taken part in the HBO documentary “The Out List” to give new perspective on what it’s like to be out loud and proud in 2013.

The dance lover Tweeted:

Ellen’s link shares a short vid about the doc and you can check it out below. You get to see a glimpse of Ellen, but (*sad face*) she doesn’t talk.

+Watch: The Trailer for “The Out List”.

The documentary will premiere on June 27, and it consists of interviews with lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals. Some of the interviewees — like Neil Patrick Harris, Wanda Sykes and Cynthia Nixon — are famous celebrities like Ellen. But this isn’t a totally celeb doc. Some of the interviewees aren’t famous, and they all bring something different to the conversations. We have an athlete, a teacher, a politician — ’cause, you know, LGBTQ people are in all walks of life.

The interviews are very personal, and they cover a range of emotions. Some of the stories will be very sad, but others will be victorious and give hope. As the fight for equality continues, Ellen and the other interviewees on “The Out List” are doing the whole “personal is political” thing. They’re putting a face on what it’s like to be LGBTQ in America, so that others can feel less alone, and intolerance can be a thing of the past.
