Seventeen Celebrates ‘Pretty Amazing’ Girls Like You

If you’ve ever scanned newsstands wondering why real girls next door can’t grace magazines for a change, or found yourself wanting to share hard-earned perspective on the ups and downs of becoming a woman — well, now’s your chance. Seventeen Magazine is once again calling readers to send in photos, stories and inspiration on the hunt for its next ‘Pretty Amazing‘ cover girl.

Last year, 35,000 girls shared insight with the mag; when the grueling judging was all said and done, 19-year-old Zoe Damacela flashed her smile and worked the camera (and a flattering wind machine) as winner of the inaugural Pretty Amazing prize. Seventeen Editor-in-Chief Ann Shoket wrote: “She won this competition for her poise, her patience (did you see how much our hair stylists put her through during her cover shoot?!), her passion for entrepreneurship, and her spirit for giving back.” To be sure, Zoe keeps her young fashion design career in balance by nurturing her service side, donating clothes and money to homeless shelters in Chicago. She has kept ties with Seventeen by guest blogging from time to time. This plus a nice scholarship to help her reach her higher education goals. Not a bad way to usher in her 20′s, huh?

This year, the winner gets an even bigger purse: $20,000 for college (courtesy of Neutrogena), plus that all-expense paid trip to New York City for a photo shoot (wind machine optional). Maybe most importantly, it’ll be a chance to share your insight, experience and talents with Seventeen readers.

We trust that some famous cover girls are genuinely down-to-earth; they may fit the “girl next door” bill, and they most certainly are still human beings. We want to read about real real girls, though. We want to read about you. Send your entry to Seventeen via its Pretty Amazing contest page.
