The UNICEF family just got bigger! Katy Perry, who has worked with UNICEF in the past, has officially become the org’s newest Goodwill Ambassador.

A very excited Katy Tweeted a special vid showing her work with UNICEF and other work that UNICEF does. And (how perfect is this?) the song in the background is “Unconditionally.” Suddenly the song doesn’t just seem to be about unconditional love in a romantic setting … it can also be about loving the world’s children unconditionally.

In April, MTV Act reported on Katy’s UNICEF trip to help kids in Madagascar, and footage from that trip shows up in the vid. “In less than one week here in Madagascar, I went from crowded city slums to the most remote villages and my eyes were opened wide by the incredible need for a healthy life — nutrition, sanitation, and protection against rape and abuse — which UNICEF is stepping in to help provide,” Katy said at the time.

In the vid, we see Katy helping kids in school, showing them how to properly wash their hands, and also just having fun with them with a game of jump rope. The video shows that some kids have real challenges and difficulties in their lives, but through things like access to education and medicine, they can rise above the poverty they were born into.

Katy continued her good work for UNICEF by performing at UNICEF’s Snowflake Ball in New York City last night, and we can’t wait to see what the future has in store for Goodwill Ambassador Perry!
