Many of us enjoyed dolphin shows as kids, either at theme parks or on TV. But more and more people are speaking up about the cruelty of keeping these sea mammals in captivity, including Jenna Ushkowitz of “Glee.”
As tempting as it is to go, “Aw, dolphin! Aw, beluga!” Jenna didn’t put these pics here to be gawked at and cooed over. (No matter how cool and cute these animals are!) She wants to spread a message and stop having these dolphins in captivity.
This is not the first time Jenna has spoken up about this issue. In October, she Tweeted about the explosive documentary “Blackfish,” calling for people to watch it. People who have checked out “Blackfish” can also scroll through the film’s website to find different orgs they can take action with, including the Born Free Foundation, the Orca Network and the The World Society for the Protection of Animals. Freedom for Whales, meanwhile, sums up its position by saying: “My point is simple: These incredible animals deserve better. They don’t deserve cleaner water or more trainers. They deserve freedom.”
A number of people have been boycotting SeaWorld and similar parks lately, but this can also be an opportunity to help dolphins, whales and other marine life in general. As many people would say, not only do they deserve freedom, but they deserve a healthy ocean environment as well.
