Selfless Snaps: Fergie Partners With Avon To End Gender-Based Violence

Avon Foundation Global Ambassador Fergie at the U.S. State Department in Washington, D.C., where she announced the new Justice Institute on Gender-Based Violence with the Avon Foundation, Vital Voices, and the U.S. State Department.
One-third of women all over the world are abused by their partners, and Fergie has teamed up with the Global Partnership to End Violence Against Women to say, “Oh, hell no!” to that.

“I’m here in Washington, D.C., today with the Avon Foundation for Women to help speak out against domestic violence,” the “Fergalicious” singer and Avon Foundation Global Ambassador says. “I’m here to announce the new Justice Institute on Gender-Based Violence.”

In 2010, Avon, the Avon Foundation, Vital Voices and the U.S. Department of State all got together to create the Global Partnership to End Violence Against Women. Now they’re expanding to get even more accomplished.

“The Global Partnership has seen firsthand that although laws do exist to protect women and punish their abusers, in many countries they aren’t applied effectively and consistently,” Fergie explains. “We have these laws, and they aren’t being enforced. Women are being left unprotected and their abusers are walking away. It has to stop.”

She goes on to say, “Avon, Vital Voices and the State Department have once again collaborated to create a new initiative of their global partnership, this time aimed at helping communities and countries to better apply and enforce their laws. … The new Justice Institute on Gender-Based Violence is designed to ensure that laws achieve their purpose.”

Fergie is feeling really inspired about what’s going on here, because together we can make this a world without abuse. Remember that abuse is never OK, and if you’re ever in a situation in which your partner is abusing you, help is available.
