Batter up! This weekend some of our favorite celebs proved the baseball diamond is a girl’s best friend at Major League Baseball’s Celebrity Softball game. The stars, including Ashanti and Alyssa Milano, suited up and hit the field to kick off the festivities leading to tonight’s All-Star game.
Every year the All-Star game, a matchup of the best of the best from the National League and the American League, proves to be one of baseball’s most exciting nights. Before the game, however, MLB hosts its Celebrity Softball game to see which celebs can hang with the best of them when it comes time to step up to the plate. Celebs like Kevin James and George Lopez joined Ashanti and Alyssa Milano at this year’s game.
It’s not all about hitting home runs and buying Cracker Jack, however. This year People magazine and MLB teamed up to pay tribute to our veterans with the Tribute for Heroes campaign. Before the first pitch is thrown out at tonight’s game, 30 veterans will be honored for their service to our country.
The magazine also signed on to the People First: Help America’s Veterans initiative, which will support Welcome Back Veterans, MLB’s organization dedicated to “providing PTSD treatment to our veterans and their families.” People magazine has also agreed to feature military men and women in multiple editorial stories over the course of the year.
