Rock Band Collects Food on Tour, Awesomeness Ensues

Blessthefall lead singer Beau Boken wants every move to count. “With so much negativity in the world today, I want to make sure every song has some sort of positive message,” he told Act. “One line on our new album is ‘Make me a light for the rest of the world.’” Fearless Records (home to Breathe Carolina and Plain White T’s) is backing the sentiment, helping Beau & Co. turn their shows into a big, awesome message.

On selected dates of blessthefall’s current North American tour, the band is inviting guests to fill designated bins at the doors of each venue with nonperishable food items to be distributed in the community.  The goal is to fill up at least three bins per date — each bin holding around 80 pounds of food, the equivalent of 60 meals per bin, which means, at bare minimum, every tour date with bins ought to provide 180 meals to local food pantries.

“Growing up, my dad had a shop in the middle of downtown LA,” Beau explained. “He would take my sister and I to work with him quite often. In front of most convenient stores, most fast food restaurants, etc., there would be hungry, homeless families trying to make a few dollars. The saddest part would be seeing the starving poor children. Instead of giving money, we would offer to buy them lunch or some sort of food.”

It’s nice to see that adulthood and rockstardom haven’t changed his POV one bit — and with just cause, as the stats on hunger are pretty unsettling. Right here in our back yard, 1 in 6 Americans struggle to get enough to eat. Nearly 1 in 4 American children go to bed hungry. With the holidays now right around the corner, supermarkets are set to overstock and families are prepping to overindulge. There’s got to be a way to share a piece of the pie (metaphorical or otherwise), right? Fearless Records and Blessthefall think so.

Rock your head off at an awesome show and be a part of strengthening your community this holiday season. Go a step further and locate a food bank that needs your time and help. (Feeding America is a good place to start.) No better time to get in the holiday spirit than at a sweaty, raucous concert, we always say. Hey, you might even win an autographed blessthefall drum head or an exclusive surprise grand prize! Two cans earn fans a raffle ticket.
