If you only catch one music video premiere this summer let it be this one. Punk rock band Rise Against has released a gripping new anti-bullying themed video for their single "Make It Stop (September's children)" premiering today (June 21) on MTV.
"Make It Stop," a response to the increased number of LGBT teen suicides this past September, follows three young people's struggles with bullying at school--struggles that bring them within moments of ending their own lives.
Though the music video depicts characters who are gay or perceived to be gay, lead singer Tim McIlrath explains "this song can apply to anybody who is feeling so tormented that they feel like there's no place for them in the future and that killing themselves is a better option."
The "Make It Stop (September's Children)" video, filmed at Rolling Meadows High School where McIlrath went to school, was created in partnership with the LGBT support project It Gets Better.
“I wanted to do a song that, first, lets fans know that we don’t tolerate bigotry in our audience and, second, empower fans who are coming to grips with their own sexuality, empower them to be proud of who they are and that we accept them, and create a community that accepts them," said McIlrath.
"Make It Stop (September's Children)" premieres today on MTV. Check out behind-the-scenes footage from the video shoot (below).
If you or a friend are struggling to cope with bullying, find ways to make it stop.
