Tonight, the “Girl Code” ladies are teaming up with MTV’S GYT (Get Yourself Tested) campaign and calling on their fans to go get themselves tested.
We’re psyched about tonight’s episode, and wanted to count down our top four fave real-talk moments on sex. One of the many reasons we love “Girl Code” is the ladies never shy away from keeping it real when it comes to sex. The “Girl Code” to having sex is being badass enough to totally take control of your sex life and own it. That means never being afraid to speak up about using protection every time and make getting tested on the reg for STDs including HIV part of your lifestyle.
+ Give back.
You only get one vagina, so show her some love! Go to the doctor and make sure you ASK to be tested for STDs including HIV (you have to specifically ask your doctor to get tested — annoying, I know).
+ Use protection every time (no excuses!)
You can make excuses about not calling your BFF back, but when it comes to using protection, I don’t wanna hear it! Be sure to talk to your partner about using protection BEFORE you lose yourself in the heat of the moment. Condoms are the only method that prevent pregnancy and STDs, including HIV.
+ When it comes to your sex life — you’re in charge.
Never be afraid to talk to your partner about what you’re comfortable with, what you like and where your boundaries are. It’s all you, girl! A happy relationship is a healthy one.
+ Study up.
Know the facts! It doesn’t have to be complicated. There are a ton of myths and misconceptions out there about STDs including HIV. People with STDs often show no symptoms, so the only way to know is to get tested (regularly, please!). It’s super-important that you know your status. Even if you test positive, there will be something you can do about it: All STDs are treatable, and most are curable.
