Sweet Tweet: You Could Meet Neil Patrick Harris By Battling LGBTQ Homelessness

"Hedwig And The Angry Inch" Broadway Opening Night - Arrivals & Curtain Call
You might know Neil Patrick Harris best from “How I Met Your Mother,” but that’s far from the only acting he does. Right now he’s starring in the Broadway play “Hedwig and the Angry Inch,” and he’s using it as an opportunity to fight LGBTQ homelessness.

NPH Tweeted:

The True Colors Foundation was co-founded by Cyndi Lauper (get it?) and it’s all about ending young LGBTQ homelessness. Explaining why the True Colors Foundation was so needed, Cyndi wrote: “[W]e need to help young gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people. Kids who are coming to terms with their sexual orientation or gender identity are often told by their families, peers and other influential people in their lives that who they are is somehow shameful or unacceptable. They are often rejected and thrown out of their own homes.”

As it is now, about 40% of homeless youth are LGBTQ. When I interviewed Cyndi about this, she said very succinctly, “You don’t throw your kids on the street.”

It’d be totally awesome if you win Neil’s tix, but we understand not everyone can afford to bid in an auction like that. You might find other ways to help the True Colors Foundation (it has an online store, BTW, with proceeds going to the cause). Even just speaking up for LGBTQ rights can and does make a diff, because it spreads awareness and helps people become more compassionate. As someone super-involved in LGBTQ rights, Neil will probably be thrilled with any bit of help you can offer!
