When you put that sleeve of Thin Mints in your freezer, do you know that you’re also helping support the largest girl-run enterprise in the world? Or that when you hoard Samoas in your desk drawer at work you’re actually helping teach Girl Scouts five essential life skills? Ah, the joys of eating amazing cookies while giving back…
February 8 is officially
the best day ever National Girl Scout Cookie Day is 24 hours dedicated to teaching the young Girl Scouts of America life skills like goal setting, decision making, money management, business ethics and people skills -- all while chowing down on your favorite cookie. And FYI: the girls learn about the five skills all year long, but today highlights it!
Founded in 1912, the Girl Scouts of America has been shaping the future female leaders of America for a little over a century. Famous alums include 70 percent of the women serving in the Senate, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and retired Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, just to name a few. Even Dakota Fanning was a Girl Scout growing up!
If you’re looking for ways to get involved in the day’s festivities, look no further. Here are four ways you can participate in National Girl Scout Cookie Day.
Eat Tweet Your Feelings
There are two official hashtags for the day: #onemorebox and #5skills, so tag your tweets when you mention how much you love Tagalongs, or, you know, how happy you are to be supporting such an awesome organization.
