Calling all future Spielbergs, Coppolas, Bigelows and Tarantinos! Your award is waiting, come and get it.
Imagine the days when college filmmakers couldn't get by without cumbersome, expensive equipment and the patience for snipping/taping endless rolls of film. We've come a long way, baby. Digital gear and access to editing software are all creative minds really need to turn ideas into magical on-screen storytime. mtvU and Emmys Foundation have mad love for those minds, and are once again honoring them through the College Television Awards.
Now in its 32nd year, the award gives props (and cash) to students who produce and create awesome video and film projects in a string of specific categories — ie: animation, commercial, documentary, newscast, etc. Two particularly rad genres highlighted are Focus on Disability and Focus on Diversity and Gender Equality in Children's Media, rounding out the usual suspects with a social justice edge.
Any college student can apply via mtvU's Best Film on Campus site; applications are due January 11, 2012 at 6pm, no exceptions. You can view the College Television Awards rules here, including breakdowns for each category and general info on prizes. Winners will fly out to LA for the black tie award gala, where they're liable to link up with industry insiders on the search for fresh talent.
