Miley Cyrus’ Equality Tattoo & Other Interesting Ways Celebs Support A Cause

Miley Cyrus has a new tat–one that proudly displays her support of gay marriage. The equal sign tattooed on her ring finger caused some hissy fits on her Twitter feed, though.

Miley stood up for her belief when a fan questioned her faith, saying “Where does it say in the bible to judge others? Oh right. It doesn’t.” She then turned around and defended the same fan when other fans began lashing out, tweeting, “Everyone is entitled 2 opinions! If u don’t stand 4 something you’ll fall for anything.” Way to walk the talk, Miley!

Getting a tattoo is a pretty significant way to show your support for a cause. Inspired by Miley’s courage, we thought we’d round up a few more celebs that have done some pretty interesting things to support a cause:

+ When Justin Bieber chopped off his hair–gasp!!!–Ellen DeGeneres made sure those luscious locks didn’t go to waste. The Biebs sent his clippings to Ellen, who then put it up on eBay to raise funds for a charity she has long supported, The Gentle Barn Foundation. Thanks to Justin, Ellen and the winning bidder who spilled $40,688 for the hair, many many animals were rescued and cared for.

+ Charlize Theron, the stunning actress who has pulled a surprising performance or two (umm, Monster anyone?), busted out with a real-life shocker. At a San Francisco auction she lip-locked with another woman for a loooong time in the name of charity. The funds she puckered up for went to OneXOne, which works to improve the health, education and well-being of children around the world.

+ Robert Pattinson also used a bit of lip love to raise money for a good cause. The Twilight star bid kisses at auction, and two winners ending up paying $20,000 each for a meet and greet and little smooch on the cheek. Though he got off a little easy on that one, he still raised a lot of dough for the amfAR Cinema Against AIDS.

+ Charlie Sheen puts the interesting in, well, interesting. But at least there was something good that came out of it. He teamed up with Snoop Dogg to lay down the track “Winning” (that’s not the good part) with all of the proceeds (this is the good part) going to his Torpedoes Against Tornados, which aids victims of the recent Alabama tornadoes.
