Just a month ago, Mandy Moore took a break from red carpets and music studios to deliver bed nets to Cameroon, where malaria is the top killer of children under five. At the UN's Social Good summit in NYC, I asked Mandy about her experience in Africa (watch the interview below) and got some quick tips on getting involved in the movement to kill malaria.
+ "[In Cameroon], we had the opportunity stand atop a mountain of 2 million bed nets in Yaounde" that were set to be delivered to the community, said Moore. The singer traveled to the Central African country along with Population Services International (better known as PSI) to bring global awareness to malaria, an epidemic that is 100% percent preventable with bed nets. But Mandy went to Africa not just to raise global awareness around malaria, the singer/actress also helped to actually set up the nets for many local famililes, protecting them from the infected mosquitoes that transmit disease.
+But you don't have to head to Africa to help the cause. "Tweet, retweet, and get your friends to tweet facts from the NothingButNets.Net site," Moore says. Facts like: "Every 45 seconds a child in Africa dies from malaria." Nothing But Nets is the leading non-profit provider of nets across Africa, and can give you lots of facts to motivate your friends.
+And if you've got a touch of style in you (I know you do), spread the word with a neon "BuzzKill" tee (like Mandy), which are being re-stocked in the NBN store now. OR, check out ways to involve your school by starting a Nothing But Nets team and raise money to send a net and save a life!
You can check my Q&A with Mandy below too! Doesn't she look adorb in her Buzzkill tee?
