If you've been paying attention, you've probably noticed there’s been a ton of negative noise in the digital space this week. To amplify the positive and tune down the negative, the Love Is Louder team put out a call to action asking fans to take a #loveislouder soundcheck before posting online.
So what exactly is a soundcheck? In the music world, artists perform soundchecks before their concerts to make sure what they're playing sounds the way it should. In the online world, a soundcheck is a quick pause to make sure the message you're putting out is positive. Namely, if you look and realize you’re actually adding to the negativity, you might want to rethink your post.
Here’s what Love Is Louder wants you to remember when you take a soundcheck:
+ Don’t Be a Hater
Going after the artist with the number one selling record just because your favorite singer doesn’t have the spot isn't going to do anything to help your fave become more successful. Instead of being a hater, why not tweet about how much you love your idol’s work? You'll convert more fans to your fandom that way, and you might even convince your followers to buy your favorite artist’s album!
+ Like It or Love It
Practice the rule of like it or love it. If you don't like something, don’t post about it. Instead of saying how much you didn’t like someone’s performance, try highlighting a set that you couldn't get enough of and think everyone should hear. People would much rather hear about what you liked and loved than what you hated.
+ Befriend Other Fans
With so many great artists out there, it’s no surprise they have such dedicated fandoms. Just because you belong to one group, however, doesn’t mean you have to fight with other fans. Why not befriend fans of artists you don’t follow as closely? They'll keep you updated on anything you need to know, and you might even be able to convince them to support your favorite singer!
If you’re ready to take the lead from Love is Louder, commit to do a #loveislouder soundcheck before you post or tweet. Remember, we all love music. Let’s spread the love and stop the hate.
