You can catch the special on June 26, and this date was picked for a very important reason. Actually, a few very important reasons. June is Pride Month, and that week is also the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots and when DOMA was overturned. Ally Daniel Radcliffe will be presenting, and Ariana Grande, Jared Leto, Rita Ora and Mary Lambert will also be taking part. It’s not just about Hollywood, though: Edie Windsor and Roberta Kaplan, who helped bring an end to DOMA, are also going to be honored.
“Through their courage, Edie and Roberta redefined an institution to make it open to everybody,” said Stephen Friedman, who is President of both MTV and Logo. “Like the greatest civil rights pioneers, they secured a basic human freedom for all of us. Each of our honorees has stood up for LGBT equality in a way that has helped change history. Whether they’re acting on the national stage or in their home towns, whether they’re activists, athletes or artists, their fearlessness in confronting the obstacles of today creates a more just and equal society for tomorrow.”
Do you know someone who is a great trailblazer for LGBTQ rights but isn’t famous? Then let Logo TV know! Logo also wants to honor local heroes, and you and your hero might even win a trip to the event!
