Every 19 seconds a mother looses a child to water-related illness. Kristen Bell is sharing her voice with charity:water to help spread awareness of this issue. Do you have three minutes to watch this video?
Charity:water has always excelled in bringing the water crisis to light through informative, relatable videos and images. Their latest animated video featuring Kristen Bell is no different, driving home the fact the nearly 1 billion people live without access to clean water, resulting in 80 percent of the world's sickness.
Kristen has been a big-time advocate of charity: water, even raising $70,000 en lieu of birthday gifts. But she's not the only celeb saving lives. Justin Bieber is still celebrating his 17th birthday with his charity: water campaign––yup, you can still send the Bieb some love for the next 38 days.
Justin is keeping good company these days, because his gal pal Selena Gomez, along with Taylor Swift, Adrian Grenier and Rihanna, have also joined the fight for clean water. They're offering up a chance to win a super-exclusive prize straight from their homes in exchange for a small donation in this hilarious campaign for UNICEF.
The truth is, though, that dirty water is no laughing matter. It can bring diarrhea, dehydration and possibly death to a village. Not only is basic survival on the line, but the time spent trekking to a nearby swamp for water often adds up to three or more hours a day! That could be time spent going to school, caring for family or earning an income.
It starts with water, but results in disease, lack of education and deepening poverty. The beginning of the end, though, starts with simple action.
