The rich and famous sure do jet-set, hitting up premieres, resting up at resorts and adopting foreign fashion trends ("Montenegro style," anyone?). Jordin Sparks is set to board a plane soon, too--but trust and believe her overseas tour isn't your typical glitzy walk of fame. As Student Ambassador to People to People, the singer, 21, will join students for a crash course in culture on an unforgettable European adventure.
Jordin, one of America's beloved "Idol" idols, said her reaction when asked to take part was a definitive yes: "I'd love to go!" Meeting her fellow travelers, a New York high school choir, got her excited for all of the history and classical music they'd learn about. "It was so fun because I was brought back to the days I was in school and I was in choir. They're all so sweet," she says in this video. "Plus, I'm going to be a tourist, too!"
For more than 50 years, People to People has been changing lives through travel, giving students and adults the chance to bond like no other while adventure-seeking abroad, learning new things, embracing diversity and soaking up cultural treasures right here on this funny little planet. It has programs in 40 countries and seven continents (poor Antarctica, the left-out ugly stepchild of land masses) and specialized trips, like the P2P Sports Ambassador program and its domestic Leadership Ambassador program, which places youth in influential environments here in the U.S.
Student Ambassadors can earn school credit, and service positions range from supporting reforestation in Malta to visiting orphanages in Italy. We've long been fans of international travel as a form of education and "voluntourism." This one is trusted, safe and boasts the J. Sparks seal of approval.
