3 Ways Jimmy Fallon’s ‘First Licks’ Video Could Help Pets. Seriously!

It’s time to pucker up for a cause! After the “First Kiss” video was all over the World Wide Web this week, Jimmy Fallon had to parody it — using puppies and kittens.

Some of those puppies are really going at it, and some were not having it — like that basset hound! And while the video is just technically supposed to be a parody, we think it could bring awareness of our furry BFFs and their needs.

+ Animal Adoption

Affectionate Dogs MTV Act
Do you want puppies and kittens who will kiss other animals and you (maybe not in that order). Then adopting is the way to go — not a pet store! Your local shelter will have many affectionate dogs and cats in need of a good home, and your new pet will give you plenty of kisses for saving them. Check out ASCPA to find a local shelter near ya.

+ Spaying or Neutering Your Pets

Avoid that baby-mama drama. As cute as puppies and kittens are, it’s super-important to get our pets spayed or neutered. Plenty of other dogs and cats will be making babies and, by getting our own pets fixed, we enable the puppies and kittens already out there to get loving homes. When too many litters are born, there aren’t enough homes to take them.

+ Animal Orgs

This video could also be great for promoting animal welfare orgs, like the Humane Society of the United States and the Ian Somerhalder Foundation. They make it their mission to save animals, and one of them has Ian Somerhalder behind it. ‘Nuff said, right?
