Are you a rock star student advocate? Want a chance at the internship of a lifetime? Are YOU the ONE? Then Jesse Eisenberg has the conscientious contest for you!
It’s fitting that the curly-haired cutie who portrayed the most influential whiz kid of our generation in “The Social Network” is helping Chegg, the popular cyber community and resource hub for students, and ONE, the antipoverty organization, to launch “Are YOU the ONE?” — a national search for 8 special college kids who are ready to take on the big issues with an eye-opening 5-day trip to Africa.
Things are pretty rough for young sub-Saharan Africans looking to learn: only 6% of students in the area enroll in higher education — extreme poverty and disease are huge barriers to hitting the books — and there has been no significant increase in enrollment since 1999. Chegg for Good and ONE want to change that by empowering American youth to be, well, the ONEs.
Here’s how it’ll go down:
+ You submit a 500-word essay
+ 50 quarter-finalists will then upload 2-minute videos for public vote on Chegg’s Facebook page
+ 20 semi-finalists will attend the ONE Power Summit, a four-day conference held in Washington, D.C. in April
+ Eight finalists will be selected by Chegg and ONE based on Power Summit performance for a life-changing trip to Africa. “The Elite 8” return to the States and serve as ONE Campus Challenge Ambassadors
Dang, that is one do-good delegation you do not wanna miss! Passionate student leaders have changed the world — helllloooo American Civil Rights Movement, Arab Spring and more — so we’re stoked that Chegg and ONE are recognizing YOUR power with this amazing adventure in advocacy.
