Girls all around the world want equal rights, and girls all around the world are standing up and showing what they’re made of! Jared Leto is especially impressed with a 13-year-old Mongolian girl who hunts with a large eagle.
He links to a story from the BBC that explains what’s going on. The Kazakhs in Mongolia are the only people on the planet who use golden eagles for hunting, and they’ve been doing this for thousands of years. It’s traditionally been something only men do, and 13-year-old Ashol-Pan might be the only female apprentice eagle hunter out there.
Ashol-Pan is at the age where Kazakh young people are first taught how to hunt with birds. Asher Svidensky, who works as a professional photographer and writer, watched her and some of the local boys learn how to hunt.
“To see her with the eagle was amazing,” he said. “She was a lot more comfortable with it, a lot more powerful with it and a lot more at ease with it.”
He also sees Ashol-Pan and others her age as having the future of Mongolia in their hands. “The generation that will decide what will happen with every tradition that Mongolia contains is this generation,” he said. “Everything there is going to change and is going to be redefined – and the possibilities are amazing.”
Jared is always talking about being true to yourself, and it looks like Ashol-Pan is doing just that!
Take action to help empower young women today to be the female powerhouses of tomorrow.
