The big 1-8 is a momentous occasion for any YA -- but when you’re the biggest teen idol in music, the whole planet is watching your transition into Adult Land like it’s a friggin’ moon landing. Oh yeah, and trying to break Guinness World Records in your honor by sending 18 million social media messages in a 24-hour period. Little gestures like that.
But for serious, one of the big hairy responsibilities that comes along with not sneaking into R-rated movies anymore is the ability to elect the politicians who run this country, not to mention the eligibility to fight in the wars those same leaders wage.
Now we know this Pop Prince (he’s no King yet) hails from Canada, so J.B. won’t be picking a side in our 2012 Presidential election or enlisting in the U.S. Navy Band -- but guess what young red, white and blue celebs will be voting for the first time in this year’s race? Miley Cyrus, Nick Jonas, Dakota Fanning (War of the Worlds, Charlotte’s Web), Jake T. Austin (Wizards of Waverly Place), and Saoirse Ronan (Hannah, The Golden Compass) can all hit up their local polling places this November. And while some of them are definitely more politically poised than others -- Nick has already announced a 2040 run for the White House plus Obama has his eye on the Jonas Brothers -- all of these Hollywood up-and-comers should at the very least get registered to vote, riiiiight?
We’re totally bummed that we won’t see Justin jammin’ out at any political rallies here in the states, but based on his amazeballs activism, we can guess what kind of issues will guide his ballot choices back in his home country.
