What’s the only thing more viral than a policy-babblin’ baby? Answer: STEPHEN COLBERT. Duh. Which is why Fix Young America, a movement that aims to end youth unemployment and put young Americans back to work, is pulling out both of these big guns. But first, they gotta get Colbert’s attention. And how do you do that? With a big-ass rally! Duh.
This Millennial mob for a better America is going down on Thursday, April 19 at 2:00 p.m. ET thanks to The National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS) and the Young Entrepreneur Council (YEC) along with hundreds of NSCS college campus chapters across the nation, including Penn State, Ohio State, Rutgers, UCLA, and MIT. The mission? Spread the good jobs gospel from YEC’s #FixYoungAmerica (#FYA) campaign — it’s about real solutions and not the typical DC mud-slingin’ – and stalk Comedy Central’s four-eyed, eagle ridin’ talk show hero with an aggressive social media campaign.
Anyone can help recruit Colbert to the cause by tweeting: “Dear @ColbertReport @StephenAtHome, help us #FixYoungAmerica. Youth unemployment = Worse than bears! #Truthiness http://bit.ly/HGaaJz” And besides remote social media support, you can also volunteer for a Street Team by texting “FixYoungAmerica” to 82257. We’ve seen that flooding celebs’ feeds with pro-social messages can actually work — what up, KONY 2012 — so #FixYoungAmerica is counting on you to take this movement to the next level by giving it that much-needed “Colbert Bump!”
And we’ll be doing our MTV Act thang by bringing y’all profiles of the #FYA protesters while mtvU blasts the rally deets to over 750 campuses — reaching 9 million students — leading up to the big day. We’re putting some MTV muscle behind this, baby!
Luckily, the hilarious American hero is primed to do the same. Colbert announced just last week that he’s extending his SuperPAC to college campuses across the nation to help highlight the issues college grads are most freaked about – namely, tackling the current 60-year-high in youth unemployment that they’ll all be facing after graduation.
Basically, Colbert and Fix Young America are like two peas in a political pod – so let’s spread the truthiness about this crappy economy and then take Action to make it better, y’all!
Help #FYA Get A Colbert Bump!
Make some noise at the #FixYoungAmerica rally!
