Guess what, y’all? We’re a big blog now! That’s right – MTV Act has been doling out your daily pop philanthropy fix for ONE HELLUVA YEAR.
Since our loved-up launch with Trey Songz back in February 2011, we’ve posted 1,335 stories giving you the 411 on the 911 issues -- bullying, sexual health, LGBT rights, poverty, student loans, hunger and more.
And we’ve been all up in your do-good grillz with the latest updates on the events that mattered. When Egypt spoke, you listened: we took you behind-the-scenes of the historic youth-fueled uprising that proved a hashtag -- #Jan25 -- can change the world. When the Earth shook, you responded: we gave you a guide to the Japanese earthquake and tsunami relief efforts that showed how all-stars, famous and otherwise, were lending a hand.
Act also invited some big names to our pro-social party: Bill Clinton guest blogged about college affordability. Selena Gomez admitted she’s selling her tap water (for a worthy cause, obvi). Adrian Grenier revealed his green commando ways. Sophia Bush said f*** cancer.
Of course, we gotta give mad props to our MTV MVPs: The Jersey Shore and Teen Mom casts. Our go-to guidos and guidettes are totally DTF (down to fight!) when it comes to fist pumping for anti-bullying and LGBT rights – and y’all were even able to #ScoreWithVinny during our March Action Madness. And the trials and tribulations of MTV’s baby mommas have stirred up some hella important convos about safe sex, sexual abuse and the challenges of parenting – not to mention all the other causes these girls care about.
Oh yeah, we also created a whole new VMA category – Best Video with a Message – and hosted the first-ever MTV Fights Hunger Auction. No biggie.
Since we’re bragging, we betta back it up with some stats:
++ 14 mentions of big-hearted hip-hop power couple Jay-Z & Beyonce
++ 21 posts (including this one!) featuring these all-important words: "fist pumping"
++ 28 Act-Offs: Lady Gaga and the Biebz have both duked it out in three of these charitable contests. (They’ve also only won one – and J.B. even lost to his gf. Ouch!)
++ 76 Sweet Tweets: Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez tie for most tender Tweeters with 3 each.
++ 140 children fed for one month with the $$$ raised by the MTV Fights Hunger Holiday Auction.
++ 1,054 tweets for Justin Bieber’s call to end digital abuse with A Thin Line.
++ 2,435 votes in support of Madonna’s Raising Malawi nonprofit.
++ 37,269 total Actions – and counting!
