When asked about the Catholic Church laws that prevent gay priests from getting married and having sex, John said he feels those things are “old and stupid.” In fact, the singer added, “If Jesus Christ was alive today — I cannot see him, as the Christian person that he was and the great person that he was, saying this could not happen.”
That’s likely to upset some members of the Catholic and Christian communities, but they might want to hear John out. After all, according to the singer, it makes sense that Jesus would be an LGBTQ ally since he was “all about love and compassion.”
While it’s not often we hear famous artists voice their religious opinions, this certainly wouldn’t be the first time John was vocal about his. A few years ago, the singer even admitted to believing that Jesus was “a compassionate, super-intelligent gay man who understood human problems.”
I don’t know about you, but we could definitely see Jesus being a member of the LGBTQ community. Most Christians can at least agree that Jesus was all about love, so whether he was an ally or a gay man, he would have definitely supported his brothers and sisters regardless of their sexuality.
