Looks like you can do a lot more than just "kiss me through the phone" these days. And, no, I'm not talking sexting.
New York City has just created a mobile app that will allow its residents to find the nearest condom at the click of a button. In an effort to make New York "the safest city in the world to have sex," the NYC Condom Finder not only identifies the five spots nearest you that provide latex or lambskin protection--it also gives you operating hours and tips on how to use protection effectively.
The app, available for iPhone and Android devices, is only the latest safe-sex tool launched by the city; New York already provides about 3 million condoms a month to its residents. No word yet on when other cities will get hip to the mobile safe-sex game.
If you've already taken the safe approach and stocked up on condoms, then maybe it's time you spread the word. Teens in China have made condom phone trinkets the coolest trend since thigh-high leg warmers. Dangling like a charm from their phones, the trinkets act as a constant reminder to wrap it up if things get intimate.
If things have already gotten intimate, getting tested is a great way to keep you and your partner safe. Researchers in England are creating a chip that can be attached to your phone, allowing you to test yourself (and your partner) for an STI in the comfort of your own home. When urinated on the chip will read the deposit for traces of sexually transmitted infections, allowing you to tell your partner and get the necessary treatment immediately.
Safe sex? Yup, there's an app for that.
