Sweet Tweet: Kerry Washington, Jason Collins, Ellen DeGeneres + More Are Glad to See Sterling Banned

Donald Sterling, owner of the L.A. Clippers, was recently accused of saying discriminatory things about African Americans on a tape that leaked to the public. There was an outcry from NBA players, celebrities, fans, and people who want to put an end to racism.

Yesterday NBA Commissioner Adam Silver confirmed that it was Sterling’s voice in the recording. “The views expressed by Mr. Sterling are deeply offensive and harmful; that they came from an NBA owner only heightens the damage and my personal outrage,” Silver said. “Sentiments of this kind are contrary to the principles of inclusion and respect that form the foundation of our diverse, multicultural and multiethnic league.”

As a result, Silver has banned Sterling from the NBA for life and is making Sterling pay a $2.5 million fine. All the money will go toward anti-discrimination orgs chosen by the NBA and the Players Association.

Celebs quickly took to Twitter to show their support of Silver’s decision.

Tyrese shared the news, sounding excited:

Kerry Washington loved this image from the Clippers’ website:

Jason Collins, who is often talking about tolerance in sports, tweeted:

NBA player LeBron James was also thrilled:

Ellen DeGeneres also used Twitter to thank Adam Silver:

And Ludacris sees a bright future for the Clippers now:

As Silver said, “We stand together in condemning Mr. Sterling’s views. They simply have no place in the NBA.” Or anywhere else, for that matter.
