Disney star Debby Ryan has a lot on her plate (including hosting MTV’s red carpet premiere of “Believe”), but she’s never too busy to help others. With the holidays approaching, we caught up with the “Jessie” star to find out how she’s paying it forward as the year winds down and why 2014 is going to be epic for her.
Ryan loves the idea of collecting toys and food, but she also knows how important it is to collect the “everyday essentials” like toothbrushes and toothpaste. Things like that go “such a long way” for families.
The actress isn’t just helping out families in her local area, though. Last year Ryan collected musical instruments and toys for a village in India, which has always had a place in her heart. Even though the people lived across the world and didn’t speak a word of English, she said it was “cool to know that you can be friends with someone and personally impact the lives of someone” even if you’re nowhere near them.
Even though her career is on the fast track, Ryan knows how important it is to slow down. To her, the holidays are all about “stopping.” In her opinion, it’s time to “get our of your brain for a second … get out of deadlines that are so important to meet and really think about the things that are going to last.” Even though she’s a self-proclaimed “workaholic,” she knows those are not the things that are going to “get buried” with her. She’s mostly concerned with making sure people look back on the time they spent with her and think, “Debby? Oh yeah, she was really warm. She kind of saw that I needed something and gave it to me.”
Even though she’s had quite the year, 2014 is going to blow 2013 out of the water. Ryan is releasing her first album, finishing the third season of “Jessie” and potentially doing a little directing. She’s also heading out on her first tour.
We love that no matter how busy Ryan gets she’s always focused on grounding herself and helping others. If you’re feeling the holiday spirit like Debby, check out the action widgets below.
