This ‘Partition’ Parody Asks A #TBT Beyonce Question: ‘Can You Pay My Bills?’

In the days of YouTube, there are many parody music vids available to view. But Chanel Carroll’s “Tuition” — a parody of Beyoncé’s “Partition” — really nails it on the head when she talks about young people’s fears of student loans.

The vid opens with Chanel going through her mail and getting a bill from student loan company, Sallie Mae. Then she starts to sing her heart out with lyrics like, “Sallie Mae pay off my tuition please/Can’t you see I’m begging you here on my knees” and “Do I owe Sallie Mae or do I owe the Mob?”

When she says, “I just want to live a debt-free life,” she’s saying the same words as countless young adults who are just getting started on their own. The vid is part spoof and part way-too-serious, because we get it.
