Beyoncé knows “A Change Is Gonna Come” to Detroit, which filed for Chapter 9 bankruptcy protection last Thursday, after falling into debt of $18 billion to $20 billion.

This is the largest bankruptcy of its kind in U.S. history, and a misfortune for the Motor City — home of our nation’s once-booming automobile industry. While in Michigan on her “Mrs. Carter World Tour,” Beyoncé paid tribute to Detroit with a beautiful rendition of Sam Cooke‘s motivational tune.

Images of the city moved behind Beyoncé, as well as photos of Detroit-raised celebs like Aaliyah, Eminem and Aretha Franklin. The performance ended with the words “Nothing Stops Detroit!”

“This is a difficult step, but the only viable option to address a problem that has been six decades in the making,” said Governor Rick Snyder in a statement to the press. Detroit certainly still has all of our R-E-S-P-E-C-T, and we know the city will soon be able to put all of its financial woes “to the left.” Perhaps they can call on Bey and Jay Z, who just became music’s first billionaire couple! Damn. Talk about “Love On Top.
