If he were still around, Abraham Lincoln would be turning 204 (!!!) today. It’d be understandable if you thought slavery's been history for nearly as long – after all, we've all heard plenty about the Emancipation Proclamation and when Lincoln freed the slaves. Today, though, there are an estimated 27 million slaves worldwide -- more than during Lincoln's time -- with incidences of sex and labor trafficking reported in all fifty states.

If you’ve been paying attention to the Oscar buzz around movies like "Lincoln" and "Django Unchained," you’d be forgiven for thinking that slavery was something that happened way back when. And if you hear anyone talking about modern-day slavery, they’re probably talking about it as something that happens abroad. But what if you discovered that someone you knew was a victim of modern-day slavery? What would you do?

Not only does slavery still exist, it exists right here, in our backyards -- with cases of human trafficking having been reported in every single state in just the past two years. Today, as part of the mtvU Against Our Will Campaign, we’re launching a new set of spots featuring poems written by survivors of sex trafficking; the moving spots are narrated by Alicia Keys, P!nk, and Jada Pinkett Smith, who wanted to lend their voices to help amplify the voices of the survivors.

Our gold eyeliner is smeared, our fire-inspired nail polish is chipped, we’re running solely on iced coffee, but your exhilarated and exhausted correspondents have made it back from their midnight Hunger Games screenings mostly all in one piece. Here in New York, I was lucky enough to take in the film at a screening hosted by the Hob, the leading Hunger Games fan site.

Their love story is captured in xoxosms, a new documentary by Nancy Schwartzman, the documentarian/activist behind The Line, which addressed the question of what happens to consent when you’re already in bed with someone.
