Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez broke up. I’m lying — don’t shed a tear or jump for joy yet — but they are going head-to-head in J-14’s Teen Icon Awards. They’re both nominated in the Iconic Heart category — Justin for his work with charity: water and Pencils Of Promise, and Selena for her work with UNICEF and the Ryan Seacrest Foundation. Who gets your vote in this week’s Act-Off?
I spent Justin’s 18 birthday celebrating the fact that my lust for him was finally legal, but he spent it doing something much more productive: bringing water to the thirsty. According to the Charity Water, 800 million people live without clean water! With the help of his fans, Justin has raised thousands of dollars for the organization. Pencils Of Promise builds schools in developing nations. The Biebz has been a spokesperson for them for a while, and even has schools named after him!
If you thought Selena Gomez couldn’t get any more perfect (I hate her. I love her.), think again. This January, it was reported that her UNICEF charity concert raised over $200,000. As an ambassador to the organization, Selena lends her voice and her hand to helping children in need. “Every day, 25,000 children die from preventable causes,” she said in a UNICEF press release. “I stand with UNICEF in the belief that we can change that number from 25,000 to zero.” Selena is also an ambassador to the Ryan Seacrest Foundation, which builds TV, radio, and media stations in children’s hospitals around the country.
It’s nice to know that Justin and Selena (Julena? Selustin?) are more than just ridiculously rich and good-looking. The two lovebirds are also devoted to helping those who aren’t fortunate enough to rent entire movie theaters out for dates. But only one can win the Act-Off! Who gets your action?
