Thanksgiving isn’t just about giving thanks, getting time off from school or work and eating till it hurts — it’s also a great day to give back to the community. We’re takin’ a look at eight celebs who have used Turkey Day to spread the gratitude by helping others.
+ Neil Patrick Harris
Not everyone can afford a great feast on Thanksgiving — some people can’t even afford the most basic food. So last year Neil Patrick Harris got involved with the L.A. Mission to give Thanksgiving meals to homeless people.
+ Kim Kardashian
Kim Kardashian also helped out the L.A. Mission by getting involved with its Thanksgiving dinner. She said, “My parents used to take us here when we were little and different places across L.A. to give back, so I’m kind of following the tradition.”
+ Zoe Saldana
Zoe Saldana has been right next to Kim K. to serve up food at L.A. Mission, and she’s worked there several times before. “If there’s one thing that is very important to do at a holiday like Thanksgiving, it’s to give just as much as we receive,” she said.
+ Ellen DeGeneres
Even though we call it “Turkey Day,” turkey is def not for everyone. Animal rights activist Ellen DeGeneres has asked people to take part in the Adopt-a-Turkey Project, which helps rescued turkeys. The idea is that now turkeys can be thankful for Thanksgiving, too.
Ellen might not be about turkeys, but T.I. actually donated hundreds of turkeys to a food drive in Atlanta. Since Atlanta is T.I.’s hometown, he wanted to give back to a place that’s special to him and he knows well.
+ Naya Rivera
In case you might not have noticed, giving back at Thanksgiving through L.A. Mission is a big thing for many celebs. Naya Rivera is another big name who’s used the holiday to help homeless people get a good meal.
+ Lil Wayne
For years Lil Wayne has joined up with other members of the Cash Money fam to give out free turkeys at Thanksgiving. Speaking to MTV’s Rapfix about his involvement, Weezy said that giving people a good Thanksgiving is “a beautiful feeling overall.”
+ Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen
NFL player Tom Brady and his life partner, model Gisele Bündchen, have shown they’re a compassionate couple by serving Thanksgiving dinner to those in need at the annual Goodwill Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is Tom’s fave holiday, and he even signed some autographs while he was at the event.
