Last week the tents at Lincoln Center went up, which only means ONE thing: It’s time for New York Fashion week, baby! This week will be filled with designers, models, celebrities and so much fashion talk it makes me nearly start drooling at the thought of it! OK, maybe that is a bit much, but I am really super-stoked!
Fashion Week is often known for being an exclusive, majorly luxe event, but we wanted to take you inside and highlight some of the models who are using their beauty and fame for good.
+ Malaika Firth
When you are being endorsed by Vogue, you know you’ve made it. Vogue calls Malaika the model to know in 2014, and she is the first black model since Naomi Campbell to sign with Prada for its campaign! At the young age of 17, Malaika signed with Premier Model Management and has since dominated the fashion world. She took to Twitter to give fans a look behind the scenes of NYFW, Tweeting:

While she may currently reside in London, Kenya will always be her home. When she goes back she always tries to give back to the local community. She told i-D, “Whenever I go to Kenya I never forget to buy clothes and toys, because near where my family lives there is a tribe called ‘The Giriamas.’ They live in tiny huts, so it’s great to go and share the clothes and sweets with the children.”
+ Soo Joo Park
Soo Joo walked the Rebecca Minkoff show just days ago and stunned the world once again. From her beauty to her graceful walk, this girl was born to be a model! Born in South Korea, Soo Joo spent her early years there prior to moving to California with her family when she was 10. She was discovered in the Bay Area, and the rest is pretty much history.
When it comes to her looks, she has been vocal on diversity within the industry. She revealed, “I don’t see myself as an Asian model. I think part of the reason I bleached my hair was that I didn’t want to be typecast as an Asian model — I wanted to be me. But diversity is very important, and, to be completely honest, they just want cookie cutters a lot. Not all — but a lot of the times, they do.”
+ Ireland Baldwin
2014 seems to be the year of Alec Baldwin’s daughter! Ireland is stepping out of his shadow and owning her own spotlight! From her recent outing at the amFAR Gala to helping raise awareness and money for HIV/AIDS and walking in the Red Dress Fashion Show, she is taking over NYC and the WORLDDD.
+ Cara Delevingne
Whenever I see photos of Cara, all I want to do is become besties with her! Whether she is partying with RiRi or advocating for animal rights, she is going to continue to dominate the modeling world. Another cause that Cara supports besides animal rights is fighting skin cancer. She teamed up with Marc Jacobs for his Protect the Skin You’re In campaign! Ahh, good luck at Fashion Week, boo-boo!
+ Miranda Kerr
If fashion and New York City are in the same sentence, you can bet supermodel Miranda Kerr will be there! The newly single mom may be the second-highest paid model, but it’s the work she does on the side that we find most inspiring. While she has become the face of many important campaigns through the years, she is now the face of something quite different, a kids helpline. This service helps teens get counseling through phone and online conversations!
Along with her passion to help kids, she also is a massive lover of her eco-friendly Kora Organics line! When talking about why she started this line she reveals, “In the past I could not find a certified organic skincare line that I was happy with, so by the end of 2007 I decided to create my own. I personally wanted the best for my skin and for my health, and that is exactly what I have created.“
+ Joan Smalls
Joan walked the catwalk for the Prabal Gurung show, dressed in all black and looking drop-dead gorgeous. When she isn’t flying around the world on various modeling gigs (and starring in Beyoncé videos), she spends time advocating for Project Sunshine.
As the spokesperson, she opened up about the cause, saying, “It’s all about bringing laughter and quality time to children, and spreading the sunshine to terminally ill or recovering kids.”
+ Karlie Kloss
Victoria’s Secret Angel Karlie Kloss is currently dominating fashion week. From walking in the Rag & Bone’s show to strutting down the Alexander Wang runway, I can’t get enough of her! Besides her modeling work and rad name, she also does incredible work with a bunch of great causes and charities.
One cause Karlie supports is the fight against HIV/AIDS. Back in 2012, the model raised over $58,000 for various AIDS charities during a New York AIDS Walk! Another passion of hers has been nutrition and helping get meals to those in need. She has worked with God’s Love We Deliver to help shine a light on the importance of lending a hand to those in need.
+ Coco Rocha
I live for Coco! She seems to be one of the most down-to-earth, talented, and beyond gorg models out there today! Not only is she stunning, but gurlll has brains for days!
During her free time, Coco uses her platform to raise awareness about human trafficking. Whether it be through Instagram photos or her jewelry line that helped young Cambodians, we are impressed with her dedication to the cause.
