The news is full of upsetting pictures about the devastation Isaac is bringing to the Gulf Coast. While it’s not as catastrophic as Katrina exactly seven years ago, there’s still a lot of damage -- here's a list of ways you can help.
+ Donate to the Red Cross!
The Red Cross has sent about 2,500 people to the affected region to help out. If you want to donate to the Red Cross, there are a few ways to do it. You can pop over to their website, or you can also call 1-800-RED CROSS or text “REDCROSS” to 90999. That text will automatically donate $10, and charged to your cell phone bill.
+ Register with the Red Cross
With all the chaos going on, it can be hard to know where people are in the affected areas. If you’re in a place affected by Isaac and are able to, please register yourself as “Safe and Well” at the Red Cross. Then friends and family will know you’re all right. If you have friends and family being affected by Isaac, you might be able to find them here.
+ Donate to Habitat for Humanity!
After Isaac passes, some rebuilding will have to be done. Habitat for Humanity is already gearing itself to help out in the rebuilding efforts. Check out Habitat’s website and make a donation.
+ Help Americares
Americares, a humanitarian and disaster relief org, is delivering emergency kits to those who need it. Like the other orgs, Americares is taking donations. You might also call their number at (800) 486-4357 to see if there might be any volunteer work you could do that involves Isaac.
+ Give Support on Twitter
If you’re going to be on Twitter today (c’mon, you know you are), you can Tweet your support. The hashtag #Isaac is big now, and this way you’ll let everyone affected know that they’re in your thoughts. Be sure to include a link to this post -- so others can help, too!
