THREE DAY WEEKEND! You can thank Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. And not only for the weekend, but also for standing up for the marginalized, the silenced, the threatened; for stirring the concern and sparking the conscience of a generation; for peacefully making his mark, both in action but also words. Among the words Dr. King enlightened us with: "Life's most persistent and urgent question is: 'What are you doing for others?'" So, at very least, for the three-day weekend: what will do you for others?
Since 1994 when Congress began recognizing the day, the third Monday in January is the only nationally recognized Day of Service. It is not a day off, but rather a day on. You best believe we're all over this one! You with us, and Dr. King?
3 Easy Actions for the 3-Day Weekend:
+ On Saturday, wake up with this Saturday morning cartoon recapping MLK, Jr's civil rights efforts. While it was made for the average kindergartner, trust--you'll learn a fact or two.
+ Then, spread Dr. King's message on Sunday. We've gathered a few quotes from Martin Luther King, Jr., among others, that have us all screaming, "Preach!" Conveniently, they're all 140 characters or less. Tweet away!

Maybe your elderly neighbor could use some help with their yard work? Regardless of what you do, every action counts. Watch why some people are deciding to give back in the video below:
